Industrial Design of an agri-robot from the scratch for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. 

From blueprints to final 3D design, plus computer vision system.

The goal was to design a functioning product which will satisfy the needs for a robot whose purpose is autonomous spraying in green houses. We followed a series of steps during the formulation of a product from start to finish.

Background

There are many countries in the world still working with intensive agriculture with massive applications of pesticides. It is very difficult to achieve the safe application of pesticides and plant nutrition with reduced worker exposure in protected areas, such as green houses. Holoscope gathered a small consortium together with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture from Banja Luka (Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina) to work on this challenge.

Goal

Our goal was to design, develop and implement a model of a multifunctional robot with autonomous guidance that would be used in a protected area for the purpose of applying plant protection and nutrition products without human presence. Holoscope provided industrial design of the prototype, from blueprints and 3D models to 3D print of the key components. In addition, we developed an algorithm for tomato fruit recognition, its count and ripeness evaluation.

Optimization

Our target customers are farmers operating with mid to large sized greenhouses in Western Balkans and other countries with intensive agriculture, where massive spraying is still heavily present.
